OREGON NATURAL DESERT ASSOCIATION

NewSun awarded funding in 2020 and 2024 to support ONDA’s Tribal Stewards program supporting tribal youth to work on restoration and stewardship projects across ancestral lands in central and eastern Oregon. We also awarded a matching grant the Pine and Robinson Creek River Restoration project.

RIOS TO RIVERS: PADDLE TRIBLAL WATERS

Total: $25,000

Seed funding to help launch the “Paddle Tribal Waters” initiative. The program is focused on teaching a group of Indigenous youth how to whitewater kayak in hopes of becoming the first people to ascend the Klamath River after the completion of the largest dam removal project in US history.

CENTRAL OREGON AVALANCHE CENTER

Total: $24,000

The Moon Mountain Weather Station, adjacent to the popular Tumalo Mountain backcountry terrain, provides weather data used to publish avalanche forecasts. The data is also available to state and federal agencies responsible for assessing fire danger and creating weather forecasts. Additional funding awarded for avalanche forecasting during the 2023/2024 winter season.

THE CONSERVATION ALLIANCE

Total: $32,000

The Conservation Alliance’s land and water conservation grant program focuses on protecting wildlife habitat and recreation access.

CENTRAL OREGON TRAIL ALLIANCE

Total: $20,000

Barnes Butte trail maintenance near Prineville; Crook County "Welcome to Central Oregon Trails” outreach; and funding for the pump tack at Phil’s Trails near Bend, OR.
