Jake Stephens, Principal / CEO
Jake Stephens has over 18 years of experience in renewable energy and utility project development driven by his core belief that climate change is the existential challenge of our lifetime. As the CEO and founder of NewSun Energy, he leads initiatives to drive decarbonization through innovative renewable energy generation and storage solutions. Jake played a pivotal role in launching the utility-scale solar sector, contributing to the development of significant projects, including the ninth largest photovoltaic plant in the world. He is a passionate advocate for distributed generation's role in Oregon's energy future.
In addition to his leadership at NewSun, Jake co-founded U.S. Solar and previously led Greensun Energy, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit in the sector. His commitment to community engagement is evident in NewSun’s Community Benefits Fund, which supports local arts, education, public health, and environmental initiatives. An alumnus of the University of Arizona and Virginia Tech, Jake combines a strong academic foundation with practical industry insights. He is dedicated to elevating the status of the solar industry in Oregon and shaping policies that protect competition and facilitate sustainable growth.
